Privacy policy

LightHub for Windows and the getlighthub.com website.
Last updated: .

LightHub for Windows processes your photos and edits on your computer. The app does not require a LightHub account and includes no usage telemetry, advertising or automatic transmission of photos or diagnostic reports to the publisher. It retains connections to GitHub to check for updates and download installers.

This policy explains the data LightHub accesses, how it is used and stored, external connections and your controls. It covers LightHub for Windows, including the build intended for the Microsoft Store, as well as this website. The iOS version has a separate document.

1. Data controller and contact

LightHub is developed and published by Adam Besrest in a personal capacity. He is the controller for the processing he carries out for this website and support requests. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email besrest.adam@gmail.com. This contact covers, in particular, information you voluntarily send to support.

2. Photos, files and local data

To display, edit and export images, LightHub accesses the files you select and the information needed to process them: image content, file name and location, technical characteristics and available metadata, such as EXIF or capture information. Some photos may contain personal data, including faces or location coordinates recorded by the camera.

These operations take place locally on your device in response to your commands. Catalogs, photo references, edit settings and data needed for the library are stored on your computer. Exports are saved in the locations you choose. The four sample photos are built into the app and do not require uploading your own images.

Your photos, catalogs and edits are not automatically sent to Adam Besrest, a LightHub server, an online storage provider or an AI service. LightHub does not include cloud synchronization of your projects. Saving a file to a folder synchronized by another application, such as OneDrive, is governed by that application’s settings.

Exported files may contain metadata depending on their format and the options used. Check the file and its metadata before sharing it; this policy does not promise automatic metadata removal.

3. Accounts, advertising and diagnostics

No LightHub account is required to edit photos. LightHub includes no advertising trackers, advertising profiling or usage telemetry. The app does not automatically send diagnostic reports to the publisher. If you voluntarily send a screenshot, log or photo to support, those materials are handled as part of a support request, described below.

4. Update checks and downloads

The GitHub update mechanism is retained in the Windows build intended for the Microsoft Store. Launching through the LightHub shortcut may automatically check the LightHub-Windows releases on GitHub. The launcher also offers a manual check. When an update is available, a download and installation may be offered.

These HTTPS connections send GitHub the technical data needed for requests and downloads, including the IP address and HTTP connection information. They are used to check available versions and retrieve update files; they do not send your photos, catalogs or edits. GitHub processes this data under its privacy statement.

You can decline the proposed installation. In the current Windows preview, launching LightHub.exe directly does not trigger the shortcut’s update check. Local photo editing does not require sending images to GitHub.

5. Windows and the Microsoft Store

Microsoft may process information related to Windows and its own distribution, security, account or diagnostic services, depending on your use and Microsoft settings. This is separate from telemetry built into LightHub. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement and Windows privacy settings to understand and control that processing.

6. How this website works

The code of getlighthub.com includes no forms, user accounts, payments, audience analytics or advertising trackers. It uses no cookies or local storage. The before/after comparison runs in your browser without sending slider values to a server. The language selector uses links between the French and English pages.

This site is hosted through ChatGPT Sites. Loading it necessarily sends technical data to hosting services and their providers, including IP address, requests and browser information. This enables page delivery, operation and service security. The provider’s processing, retention periods and any transfers are described in OpenAI’s European privacy policy. Platform information is also available in the legal notice.

7. GitHub, Discord and external links

The Downloads and Release Notes pages query GitHub’s public API when opened; the journal also queries it on manual refresh. GitHub receives the technical data needed for those connections. No GitHub account token is used. If the query fails, a dated local snapshot is shown. Clicking an installer or release also connects you to GitHub.

The Discord invitation is a simple external link: no Discord widget or script is embedded on this site. If you open it and use Discord, your account data and communications are processed under Discord’s privacy policy. Messages posted in channels accessible to other members can be read by those members and the people moderating them. Reports posted in the GitHub repository’s issues are public.

The publisher does not sell information received through support or use it for advertising. External providers apply their own policies to use of their services. Those policies describe recipients, retention, processing countries and applicable safeguards for international transfers.

8. Contact and support

When you email besrest.adam@gmail.com, the publisher receives your email address, message and any attachments. This information is used to understand the issue, respond and follow up on your request. Send only relevant information; avoid personal photos or logs containing data unnecessary for support.

Messages are received in a Gmail mailbox, subject to that service’s technical processing and Google’s privacy policy. Messages and attachments are not automatically published on the website or Discord.

Handling support requests is based on the publisher’s legitimate interest in answering enquiries and supporting the software. Website operation and security also pursue a legitimate interest. Retention required by a legal obligation is based on that obligation. These legal bases do not authorize uploading your photos from the app: no such automatic transmission takes place.

9. Retention and deletion

On your computer: photos, exports, catalogs and settings remain until you or the tools you use delete them. In the current Windows preview, data is stored, in particular, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\LightHub\Preview, separately from program files. Uninstalling that preview does not delete this folder.

To erase this data, close LightHub and delete the relevant files and folders using Windows, after keeping anything you want to retain. Original photos and exports stored elsewhere must be managed in their respective locations. Removing an item from a catalog must not be treated as a guarantee that every copy of the file has been erased. The publisher cannot remotely delete files on your computer or with your synchronization provider.

Support: communications are kept while your request is handled and for necessary follow-up, then deleted when no longer needed. Some information may be retained to meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend a right, only to the extent necessary. You may request deletion of information you have sent to the publisher.

External services: their retention periods and criteria are described in the policies linked above. Deleting a local file does not delete a message you may have posted on GitHub or Discord.

10. Security and your choices

The update connections described here use HTTPS. Local data protection depends, in particular, on access permissions for your Windows session and folders and on your device’s security measures. Keep originals and backups in a location you control. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection.

You choose which photos to import, where to export and what information to send to support. You can decline an update installation, manage your local files and Windows settings, and use the privacy controls of third-party services you choose to open.

11. Your rights

For personal data held by the publisher, you may, subject to applicable legal conditions, request access, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email besrest.adam@gmail.com, specifying the relevant data and request. Requests are handled within the time limits required by applicable law.

You may also complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority, or the competent authority where you live. For data managed directly by Microsoft, GitHub, Discord, Google or OpenAI, their policies explain how to exercise your rights with those services.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy is updated when LightHub features or data processing change. The update date appears at the top of this page. Any change introducing collection, synchronization or a new recipient must be described before implementation and, where required by law, accompanied by appropriate information or consent.
